KinetiSense is a compact wireless device that integrates motion detection and electromyography (EMG). Three orthogonal accelerometers and gyroscopes provide three dimensional motion while two channels of EMG record muscle activity. Data can be transmitted to a computer in real-time or data can be saved to the on-board memory card, capable of storing a maximum of 12 hours of data. Up to four KinetiSense devices can be used simultaneously in real-time and the data synchronized within the software. This allows the user to position multiple Motion Sensors on different portions of the body, lending the system useful in many research situations.
The small size, lightweight KinetiSense design and wireless data transmission make the system ideal for motion analysis and human kinematic research settings. Multiple devices can be used at once to monitor gait, posture or upper extremity movement. Other applications include balance monitoring, slips, trips and falls, biomechanics or rehabilitation monitoring.
The KinetiSense system is not intended to measure absolute motion and the software does not calculate joint angle. The software provides linear acceleration along and angular velocity about each axis.
