FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CLEVEMED CHAIRMAN AND FOUNDER IS AWARDED FOR BUSINESS SUCCESS
CLEVELAND, OHIO, January 4, 2007 -
Cleveland Medical Devices Inc. (CleveMed) and Orbital Research, Inc. announced that they are both ranked once again among the Weatherhead 100 fastest growing companies in Northeast Ohio. These recent
awards make the companies´
Founder and Chairman, Robert N. Schmidt, the first to receive 15 Weatherhead 100 honors. This achievement marks just one honor among a growing list of accomplishments related to small business development.
Because of his business success, Mr. Schmidt has worked as an advocate for small businesses, and was named the 2006 National Small Business Association´s Small Business Advocate of the Year. Candidates for this national honor are chosen from over 150,000 small businesses represented by the NSBA and is based their efforts advancing small businesses and improving conditions for their owners on the federal, state and local levels.
In 2005, Inc. Magazine and Harvard University´s Initiative for a Competitive Inner City honored Mr. Schmidt with The Inner City´s Seven in Seven Award. Mr. Schmidt is the only business owner whose companies have placed among The Inner City 100 fastest growing companies located in inner cities seven times in seven years since the award’s inauguration. The award was presented by Professor Michael Porter of the Harvard Business School and Mr. Gordon Lee Jones III, publisher of Inc. Magazine.
It was Mr. Schmidt’s passion for helping small businesses that led to his recognition among those in the entrepreneurial and small business world. Not only has he contributed to the growth of the five businesses that he started, but he also has worked on behalf of many other small businesses by teaming up with Senators Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio) to help small businesses save $10,000 in taxes when purchasing new capital equipment. In his work he has contributed to developing new programs in Ohio to help promote technology-based small businesses, allowing for new job creation.
According to Mr. Schmidt, “It is important that small technology companies keep in contact with their representatives in government. Small businesses now employ more scientists and engineers than large businesses and create more patents, which is the number one indicator of regional economic wealth. Without these creative small companies, the region and the nation will lose their economic competitiveness."
