FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CLEVEMED RECEIVES 2006 MANNY AWARD FOR THE CRYSTAL MONITOR® 20-S
CLEVELAND, OHIO, May 1, 2006 -
Cleveland Medical Devices Inc. (CleveMed) was awarded the 2006 Manny Award in the New Product Development/Innovation category for the
Crystal Monitor 20-S by Inside Business magazine and MAGNET.
Sleep apnea is a disorder in which a person repeatedly stops breathing during sleep, causing highly fragmented and poor quality sleep. It is believed that sleep apnea affects approximately 12 million people in the United States, similar to adult diabetes, yet the number diagnosed is only between one and two million. The Crystal Monitor 20-S was designed to make it easier for physicians to diagnose sleep disorders by making it possible to perform sleep studies not just in the traditional sleep labs, but also in a variety of non-traditional settings such as hospitals, pre-surgical suites and "sleep hotels."
"Sleep labs can´t keep up with the demand," said
Hani Kayyali, CleveMed president. "We need to extend the reach of the sleep labs in order to expedite the process."
Late last year, CleveMed released the Crystal Monitor 20-S, a superior 14-channel wireless physiological monitor for diagnosing sleep disorders, allowing for greater flexibility needed to better meet the demand for sleep studies. Next month, they will be releasing a similar monitor that will operate in the 2.4 GHz band, Crystal Monitor 20-B making the technology available in the international market. In addition, CleveMed will be releasing a sleep apnea screener, SleepScoutT that can help to triage and diagnose sleep apnea in additional settings, such as a primary care physician's office.
