FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CLEVEMED LAUNCHES NEW WIRELESS PSG SYSTEM INTERNATIONALLY - THE CRYSTAL MONITOR® 20-B
CLEVELAND, OHIO, October 9, 2006 -
Cleveland Medical Devices Inc. (CleveMed) announces the international product release of the
Crystal Monitor 20-B, a wireless polysomnography (PSG) system for diagnosing sleep disorders. Complementing their wireless
Crystal Monitor 20-S, which operates in the 900 MHz ISM band, the Crystal Monitor 20-B operates in the 2.4 GHz ISM band, making it another wireless option for expanding the reach of the sleep lab.
Sleep apnea is a disorder in which a person repeatedly stops breathing during sleep, causing highly fragmented and poor quality sleep. It is believed that sleep apnea affects approximately 12 million people in the United States, similar to adult diabetes, yet the number diagnosed is only between one and two million. The prevalence of sleep apnea in the international community is also high; thus, creating a worldwide interest in the disorder.
The Crystal Monitor line of products was designed to make it easier for physicians to diagnose sleep disorders by making it possible to perform sleep studies not just in the traditional sleep labs, but also in a variety of non-traditional settings such as patients' homes. With the addition of the Crystal Monitor 20-B, wireless sleep diagnosis is opened up to a wider international market, where 2.4 GHz is the preferred frequency for wireless medical devices.
"Sleep labs need additional options to keep up with the demand in the evolving healthcare market," said Sarah Weimer, Crystal Monitor Product Manager. "We need to expand the reach of the sleep labs in order to get patients convenient testing and treatment, when they need it regardless of where they live."
