KinetiSense Hardware
The KinetiSense system consists of two small lightweight components, the Command Module and the Motion Sensor, connected with a thin, flexible cable. Up to five Motion Sensors can be attached to one Command Module and the cable length can be customized at the time of purchase, making the KinetiSense system suitable for numerous applications.
The KinetiSense
Command Module integrates a 2.4 GHz radio for wireless data transmission to a PC within 100 feet line of sight, a memory card for storing up to 30 hours of data and a rechargeable battery lasting 3-15 hours, depending on the configuration. Two LEDs on the front of the module illuminate to indicate power and battery charging. A single input provides two channels of EMG, battery recharging and data download and erase. A cable is provided with the system for measuring muscle activity as well as a cable interfacing with a PC for battery and memory options, which is done through a USB port. The KinetiSense Command Module provides two modes of operation: For short term data collection studies, data can be wirelessly transmitted in real time to a CleveMed base station connected to a PC for reliable radio communications. For longer studies, data can be stored in the on board memory. Each time the device is turned off and then on again, a new data file is created in the memory with the appropriate time and date stamp, allowing for easy differentiation between files or studies.
Each KinetiSense
Motion Sensor houses three orthogonal accelerometers and gyroscopes that measure linear acceleration and angular velocity about the X, Y and Z axes, providing a complete picture of the subject’s three dimensional motions. Each Motion Sensor connects to the Command Module with a thin, flexible cable that can be customized at the time of purchase, making the system suitable for numerous applications.
The wireless design of the KinetiSense system offers several advantages over traditional tethered systems. Portability of the system to other locations or laboratories is incredibly easy given the small size and lightweight design. Subjects also have the ability to move freely while wearing the device without any interference with the motion being measured from the accelerometers and gyroscopes. Safety is increased as well by the elimination of obtrusive wires or direct connection to a computer or power outlet.
